Invest in sustainability. For too long the concept of a healthy lifestyle has been separated from a healthy ecosystem. The current food shortage, extreme weather and other effects of climate change have made it clear that the health of the planet is inextricably linked to personal health and well-being. As society develops the complex systems needed to efficiently allocate resources, think cities and corporate value chains, the connection between personal and environmental sustenance is easily forgotten.

True sustainable investing creates well-being on both a personal and systemic level. Sādu was created in an effort to re-connect the individual with the ecosystem. As an app, Sādu is able to make a direct correlation between post workout endorphins and the feeling of investing into the future. By rewarding fitness activities with trees, the app is designed to reinforce connection between self-care and an environmentally sustainable future.

In order to ensure change occurs on both a personal and systemic level Sādu will complement with other carbon management tools, giving users a better idea of personal environmental impact and how to reduce it. Soon, anyone will be able to tailor the number of trees earned according to personal goals.

While reducing ones carbon footprint is a great first step, voluntary offsetting is not enough. In addition to carbon management Sādu will eventually give users the ability to choose between earning trees in nature-based solutions and investing into sustainability projects. By connecting fitness activities to nature-based solutions and offering the ability to invest in a variety of climate projects Sādu will re-connect a sense of personal well-being with the health of the planet.

It’s time for something that systematically engages both the individual and the organization in the creation of sustainable future that everyone can feel proud of. It might be the case that climate change doesn’t feel like a problem or it might be the case that resolving it should be left up to the companies causing the pollution. However, with a quick analysis of the damage done to the ecosystem it is clear that this reasoning is will fail to sustain life on earth.

The loss of bio-diversity is predicted to be at least 1000x higher than the natural extinction rate [1]. Extreme weather-related events have cost the US over 500 Billion between 2014–2019 [2]. Worsening air pollution has increased the rates of heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema [3]. Waiting for someone else to solve the climate crisis is not working. By starting a Crew on Sādu companies, organizations and the people they are made of and the projects restoring the ecosystem, can organize efficiently to improve their well-being and the health of the planet at the same time.
